Transcription: Female praying mantises are pretty big carnivorous insects. They'll attack pretty well anything that moves. Now, when they mate, it's not uncommon for the female to bite the head off the male, just before they mate. Ugh. Why? Well, for the female, it's a nice nutritious meal, and you don't have to catch it first. But why before mating? Why not after? Believe it or not, the males losing his head doesn't seem to affect his sexual performance. Some scientists think that losing his head even improves it. If that's so, it's an added benefit. Selfish or what?
